Kiwanis Host To Students CHANDLER, The Chandler Kiwanis Club held its fifth annual International Inter Club and Ladies Night here yesterday. Foreign exchange students at Indiana University and Evansville and Oakland City colleges were guests. Purpose of the annual event is to improve relations between United States and foreign countries. Speaker for the evening was N. V.

K. Murthy, an Indiana University graduate student from Hyderabad, India. He is a journalism student at Indiana. Countries represented besides India, were Turkey, Poland, Canada, Austria, Guam, Korea, Okinawa, Philippines, Mexico, Ireland, Denmark, England, Jamaica, Thailand, China, Holland, America and Ceylon. Victor Bates Dies At Home in England Victor Bates, husband the former Miss Martha Stone of Evansville, died March 17 at his home in Claygate, England.

He was 48. Mr. Bates was a barrister and was associated with Price-Waterhouse auditing firm of London. He graduated from Oxford College. He served as secretary to the British Ministry of Supplies in Washington, D.C., after escaping from the Germans in Denmark during World War II.

Surviving are his wife, the of Arthur C. Stone, Evansville attorney; daughters, Catherine and Martha Victor Bates; and a son, Edward A. Bates. Illinois Deaths- CARTERVILLE Funeral for Barney H. Carter, 89, son of Laban Carter, one of the founder's of Carterville, was at 2 p.m.
