The Netherlands was represented by the group Harmony, with the song "'t Is OK", at the 1978 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place in Paris on 22 April. Harmony were the winners of the Dutch national final for the contest, held on 22 February.

The winner of the contest was Israel with the song "A-Ba-Ni-Bi" by Izhar Cohen and the Alphabeta. The winning entry was a love song sung in the Hebrew equivalent of Ubbi dubbi (the title is an expansion of the Hebrew word ani, meaning "I").

The Dutch artist Joost Klein has been disqualified from the Eurovision Song Contest after a backstage incident. An allegation of intimidation was made to Swedish police by a female member of the production crew.

COPENHAGEN/AMSTERDAM (Reuters) -Swedish prosecutors said on Monday they have closed an investigation into Dutch singer Joost Klein, who was evicted in May from this year's Eurovision Song Contest following a complaint against him by a female member of the production crew.

The Netherlands took part in the very first Eurovision Song Contest back in 1956, and have won on five occasions. Corry Brokken delivered their first victory in 1957 with Net Als Toen ('Just Like Then') before Teddy Scholten's Een Beetje ('A Little Bit') topped the scoreboard in 1959.

The most notable winners who have gone on to become international stars are ABBA, who won the 1974 contest for Sweden with their song "Waterloo", and Céline Dion, who won the 1988 contest for Switzerland with the song "Ne partez pas sans moi".

Klein was banned from the grand final hours before it took place in Malmö on 11 May, after a female camera operator accused him of "threatening" behaviour.

Dion was just 20 when she entered the 1988 Eurovision Song Contest. The Canadian singer sang the French song “Ne partez pas sans moi” and came out victorious, winning the first place prize. Though the singer was already a celebrated performer in France and Canada, her fame skyrocketed in the United States.

However, following a backstage incident involving Klein and a production staff member shortly after his semi-final performance, the Netherlands was disqualified from the final, where it was set to perform in position 5. It was the first time that an entry was disqualified during the contest.
