Second Hidden Chest
Red Border Chest
Since the Vault of Glass back in Destiny 1, there has always been some kind of hidden chests that players can find and loot in raids. Destiny 2 has continued this trend for many years, though they did change it so that you could only get loot that you had already obtained from clearing encounters. As a result, this is a great way to try and get better rolls on raid weapons or armor with better stat distribution.
With any raid that has craftable weapons, this also gives players a small chance at a red border weapon to get further progress toward unlocking patterns. Salvation's Edge also has a few hidden chests, and here is where you can find them.

Destiny 2: Salvation's Edge Loot Table
Salvation's Edge offers a new set of gear that Destiny 2 players will want to get. Here are all of the equipment you can get from this raid.
The first chest is between the second and third encounter. While navigating through the lengthy platforming section, look for an area that is mostly made out of a metallic orange substance. This is near the end of the platforming section.
Jump up into the small crevice in the corner of the wall to find a hidden room where the first chest is located.
Second Hidden Chest
The second and final hidden chest is near the end of the raid. After completing the fourth encounter and making your way up to the Witness, look for a spot where the roots connect to the temple-like structure.
In this area is a small room hidden, which is pointed to in the image above. Jump up to that area and go inside the room to find the final chest. If you manage to find both chests, you will unlock a triumph that rewards you with the Resonance Cellweave shader. Unfortunately, the triumph does not increase the drop chance for the raid Exotic.
Red Border Chest
While it doesn't count toward the triumph, there is a third chest that has a guaranteed red border weapon inside. But just like any red border chest in a raid, you must solve a series of puzzles to unlock it. Near the start of the raid, look for a large chamber with an elaborate design on the back wall. There, you will see eight rows of symbols that look almost exactly like the Resonance shapes that are a core mechanic of the raid.
Pay attention to the third column on the left side. Throughout the raid, there are five hidden areas with the plates and pillars seen in the first three encounters. The symbols on the column indicate what type of Resonance you will need to close the circuit for each of these hidden rooms. The symbol at the bottom shows what you need for the first room and goes all the way up to the fifth room. Be aware that only three of these rooms will be active per week. If a room is active, the pillar will be glowing. If it is not active, the pillar will not be glowing. Below are the locations for each room.

Aside from the hidden chests, there is another chest in Root of Nightmares in Destiny 2 that has a guaranteed Deepsight Weapon every week.
Make sure you use the correct Resonance during each puzzle. If you use the wrong one, you will have to start the entire raid all over again.
First Room
Near the start of the first platforming section before the first encounter, look for a wall with a narrow opening. Go through this opening and look to the right to see a narrow crawlspace that is glowing with orange light. Go through here to find the first room.
Second Room
The second room is just before the first encounter. Look for the two sets of stairs leading nowhere. Jump down to the bottom set of stairs to find a hallway that leads you to the second puzzle room.
Third Room
Once you have cleared the first encounter, go up the gravity elevator and jump along the green blocks. While jumping up the blocks, look to the right to spot a window frame. This is roughly around the point when the Witness is trying to persuade you to "fall on its knife."
Fourth Room
The fourth room is found after clearing the second encounter. While navigating past the strange energy beams, look for a small room along the wall to the left as depicted in the image above. Enter this hidden chamber to find the fourth part of this puzzle.
Fifth Room
On your way to the notorious fourth encounter, you will find the fifth room near the start of the platforming section. Look for an area to the left where there are a bunch of those orange blocks. Jump up to find the final room that is part of the red border puzzle.
Once you've successfully activated all three rooms with the correct Resonance, complete the rest of the raid. When the Witness retreats, a second chest will automatically open, and you will get a guaranteed red border weapon in addition to whatever loot you get from the large chest.
