What Are Air Fryer Peach Hand Pies?

Air fryer peach hand pies are small, individual-sized pastries filled with sweet peach filling and cooked in an air fryer.

These hand pies feature a flaky, golden-brown crust and a warm, juicy peach filling. You can use canned, frozen, or fresh peaches, but I love the vibrant flavor of fresh peaches the best!

For the crust, you can use store bought dough like I do to save time, but you can also make homemade, or use an alternative prepared option, like puff pastry.

The air fryer baking method is healthier than deep frying due to no oil being required, and much faster than a conventional oven. This makes it an ideal choice in the heat of the summer (when fresh peaches are best) for a quick and delicious dessert!

Air Fryer Peach Hand Pie Ingredients

Air Fryer Peach Hand Pies (With Fresh Peaches)! - Dinners Done Quick (3)
  • 15 ounce box refrigerated pie crusts (2 crusts total)
  • 1 cup diced fresh peaches (about 2-3 peaches depending on size)
  • 3 Tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp fresh lemon juice
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tsp cornstarch

For the Vanilla Glaze (Optional)

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 Tbsp milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Ingredient Tips and Substitutions

  • Swap in a homemade double pie crust recipe or store bought puff pastry dough instead of the pie crust. Cooking times can vary slightly with homemade dough in particular, so adjust as needed
  • You can also use defrosted frozen peaches, or canned peaches instead of the fresh, or use canned pie filling for the entire filling to save time
  • The brown sugar can be swapped for granulated if preferred, and you can adjust the amount to taste (or based on exactly how ripe your peaches are)
  • Instead of cinnamon, you can use nutmeg, ginger, or a combination thereof to change things up! You can also omit it altogether if you prefer
  • Feel free to try almond or raspberry extract instead of vanilla for a different flavor combo

Peach Hand Pie Variations

  • Peaches and Cream. Beat 8 ounces room temperature cream cheese with ½ cup powdered sugar and the vanilla. Split the filling half and half between diced peaches and the sweetened cream cheese for peaches and cream hand pies
  • Fruit Combinations. Try using half apricot, mango, or raspberries instead of all peaches. This will give you peach apricot, peach mango, or melba peach hand pies! Feel free to try other combos too!

How to Make Peach Hand Pies in the Air Fryer

  1. In a small mixing bowl, combine the peaches, sugar, cinnamon, lemon juice, vanilla, and cornstarch. Stir well and set side

  1. Unroll your pie dough on a flat work surface. Use a round cookie cutter or a drinking glass to cut out circles (you’ll usually get 6-8 circles per crust, depending on the size of your cutter)

  1. Spoon 1-2 Tbsp of peach filling into the center of the dough. You’ll need to adjust slightly based on the size of your specific dough circles. Try to leave at least ¼” clean edge all the way around the outside of the dough
Air Fryer Peach Hand Pies (With Fresh Peaches)! - Dinners Done Quick (6)
  1. Wet the clean edge of the dough with water (use a pastry brush or your finger)
  2. Fold the dough over to create a halfmoon shape. Tip: I pick it up and hold it like a taco, then pinch the edges together to seal. If you prefer, you can add filling to only half the dough cutouts and instead add another complete circle of dough over the top to make circular hand pies

  1. Preheat your air fryer to 350°F. This helps the pies cook more evenly, since they will not get flipped during the cooking process
  2. Cut a small slit into the top crust with a sharp knife; around ½” long is usually sufficient

  1. Place your hand pies into the preheated air fryer basket or rack in a single layer, with space between each one. Tip: you can use parchment under the pies to catch any drips. Just make sure not to add it until after the preheating step

  1. Cook on the air fry setting at 350°F for 10-12 minutes, until the pies are golden brown
  2. While the pies are cooking, combine the glaze ingredients (powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla) in a small bowl and mix well. Adjust the amount of milk if needed to reach a drizzling consistency

Recipe FAQs

What Type of Dough Should I Use?

You can use store-bought pie crust, puff pastry, or even biscuit dough.

Each type will give a slightly different texture and flavor to the hand pies.

How Long Do Air Fryer Peach Hand Pies Take to Cook?

Typically, air fryer peach hand pies take about 10-12 minutes to cook.

However, it can vary slightly depending on the size of the pies and the temperature of your air fryer.

Can I Make These Hand Pies Ahead of Time?

Yes, you can assemble the hand pies and store them in the refrigerator for a few hours before cooking.

This makes them a convenient option for entertaining or meal prep.

How Do I Prevent the Filling from Leaking Out?

Ensure you seal the edges of the hand pies well by pressing them together with a fork or crimping them.

You can also brush the edges with a bit of beaten egg or water before sealing.

Do I Need to Use an Egg Wash?

You do not need to use an egg wash (a mixture of beaten egg and water or milk).

However, if you choose to brush it on the crust before cooking, it helps to achieve a beautiful, golden-brown finish.

What Can I Serve with Peach Hand Pies?

Peach hand pies are delicious on their own.

However, you may also serve them with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or a drizzle of caramel sauce.

Can I Make a Gluten-Free Version?

Yes, you can make a gluten-free version by substituting a gluten-free pie crust or pastry dough. Note that cooking times can vary slightly.

Also make sure to check that other ingredients are gluten-free (even those that should be naturally, in case of production contamination).

How Do I Know When the Hand Pies Are Done?

The hand pies are done when the crust is golden brown and crispy, and the filling is bubbly.

You can check for doneness by carefully opening one pie to ensure the filling is hot, or it may bubble up through the cut in the top of the pie.

Peach Hand Pie Recipe Tips

  • As a point of reference, I use a 4” diameter cookie cutter and get 6 circles per sheet of pie dough (I do have to mash some scraps together for the last one). I use a rounded Tbsp of filling in each one, and that works perfectly for me. Adjust as needed for your specific tools!
  • Even though you should try to leave a clean edge around the dough for the best seal, peaches produce a lot of liquid. It’s likely it will run out of the center when you add the filling. Try to dab the edges with a paper towel to get the bulk of it, and just make sure to crimp the edge very well to seal it as much as possible. Some leaks are inevitable, though!

Hand Pie Storage Tips

  • Store leftover peach hand pies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days or in the refrigerator for up to four days. Reheat in the air fryer for a few minutes before serving, if desired (but they are also delicious cold)!
  • For advanced preparation, you can freeze the assembled, uncooked hand pies. Freeze them on a baking sheet until solid, then transfer to a freezer bag. Cook directly from frozen in the air fryer, adding a few extra minutes to the cooking time to account for the colder starting temperature

Final Thoughts

These air fryer peach hand pies are the perfect summer dessert to use those fresh peaches! There’s no oven required, thanks to your air fryer, which bakes them to perfection in under 15 minutes.

Of course, even when it’s not summer, you can enjoy them by using frozen, canned, or even peach pie filling to make an equivalent that’s still delicious.

I love hand pies because they’re perfect individual servings and easy to grab and go, making them ideal for serving at parties. Plus, you can always make a variety of different filling options to please a crowd!

Using premade pie dough saves a lot of time, and the result is a delicious, flaky crust, juicy, lightly sweet filling, and that “fried pie” feeling when you add a glaze to finish things off!
